Tip of the week – Regrow green onions / shallots

Shallots

Many of my dishes require a sprinkle of shallots – enough to have to buy them but never enough to use the whole bunch. I swear it’s a marketing scheme. Sick of throwing out soggy, unused shallots I did some research into preservation and stumble across this handy tip. I think it’s just brilliant! The photo is pretty self explanatory – use the top half of the shallots, keep the roots and bottom bit in water and voila! Regrowth. I’ve read that an alternative option is to plant the roots and they can re-grow that way as well. I have limited garden space so the cup of water trick suits me just fine. So easy & so simple.
